Utrecht: the beating heart for cycling

On behalf of the Utrecht Convention Bureau, the city & province of Utrecht, Royal Jaarbeurs and other partners of our alliance, it is with great pleasure to present Utrecht as a candidate for the EuroVelo Cycling & Tourism Conference 2026.

It would be an honor to welcome your conference and participants to the beautiful, cycling friendly city of Utrecht. Utrecht is the beating heart of the health-related economy in the Netherlands. In Utrecht, we collaborate towards a healthier, more sustainable future. To illustrate, Utrecht is home to the largest collection of health and life sciences-related organizations, institutions, and companies within the Netherlands.

In many ways, cycling contributes to our mission. Focusing on the many benefits that cycling provides, has been a focal point to make our region healthier, more livable, and attractive for both residents and visitors. We take great pride in having hosted all three of world’s most prestigious cycling races: Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and La Vuelta. It put our region in the (global) spotlight and attracted a significant number of visitors to our region. Next, these large events acted as catalysts for improving our overall cycling infrastructure and initiated numerous cycling projects concerning residents in our region.

Our integrated approach to cycling, infrastructure and the broader ‘cycling ecosystem,’ combined with our expertise and experience, has established our region as a leader in the field of cycling. This is embodied in our motto: Utrecht, World Bike Capital and in our province’s ambition to become the ‘Cycling Region of Europe.’

We are pleased to share our experiences and support the exchange of cycling knowledge and ideas to promote cycling across the board. Therefore, we aspire to host the 2026 EuroVelo Conference and warmly welcome its partners and participants to our region.

Centrally located in the heart of the Netherlands, Utrecht is an ideal location for hosting meetings with delegates from around the world. A direct train connection from Schiphol International Airport brings participants to the state-of-the-art Utrecht Central Station in just 30 minutes, conveniently located within walking distance of the historic city center, with its charming wharves and canals. Renowned for its authenticity and charm, Utrecht is recognized as one of the rising stars among European congress and tourist destinations. Moreover, the city offers excellent congress facilities, hotel accommodation in various categories and good value for money.
